The Correct Way to Place Door Frames for an Auspicious Home
In the construction of a house, it is essential to have a profound understanding of the directions in which door frames are placed, ensuring that proper Vastu techniques are followed. A home receives various elemental energies (Bhuta) and qualities based on these directions. The North brings Apo (Water) energy, the South brings Patavi (Earth) energy, the East brings Tejo (Fire) energy, and the West brings Vayo (Air) energy into the living space.
The Significance of Main and Rear Doors
Primary attention must be given to the front and back doors for the prosperity of the household. The exit (rear) door should be slightly smaller than the main front door frame. Proper placement of the door frame can bring health, majesty, and fame to the residents, a task that depends entirely on the Vastu consultant’s expertise.
It is often observed that some people frequently use the back door when departing for a journey; however, this is an incorrect practice. To ensure the success of auspicious travels and tasks, one must always use the main entrance. Another common mistake is carrying laundry, meat, or fish through the main entrance. Such acts can cause the protective deities or the positive “Ishta Deva” energy associated with the main door to depart, draining the home’s spiritual strength.
Technical Alignment and Placement
When installing doors, the frame must be positioned so that it does not intersect with the major axis lines:
- The North-South line
- The East-West line
- The NorthEast-SouthWest (Ishana-Niratha) line
- The NorthWest-SouthEast (Vayamba-Gini) line
Furthermore, hanging “Yantras” or protective oils directly on the main door frame is a grave error. Placing doors in the South-West or South-East corners often leads to chronic illness among residents. Specifically, many houses have exit doors in the South-East, which is a primary cause of physical ailments and the general decline of the household.
Classification of Houses Based on Door Placement
Vastu Shastra classifies houses into several types based on the directions of their entrances:
- Dhanya House: Doors only in the East. Ideal for trade and business.
- Nanda House: Doors in the East and South. Generally inauspicious for women; leads to temperamental issues and heat-related illnesses.
- Kanta House: Doors in the East and West. Generally good for health; an average house in terms of economy.
- Manoramme House: Doors in the West and South. An auspicious house that brings wealth and property.
- Sumukha House: Doors in the West, East, and South. Excellent for gaining wealth and maintaining good health.
- Ripuda House: Doors in the North and South. An inauspicious house that brings disease, suffering, and disaster.
- Dhanada House: Doors in the North, South, and East. A very auspicious house that brings wealth and grain.
- Nasha House: Doors in the North and West. Inauspicious; leads to loss of wealth and frequent phlegm-related illnesses.
- Akranta House: Doors in the North, East, and West. Inauspicious; tends to lead to conflicts due to illicit relationships.
- Vijaya House: Doors in all four directions (North, South, East, West). Highly auspicious; suitable for high-ranking officials and leaders.
